Abstract

P1.6 gPhoton: A Time-Tagged Database of Every GALEX Photon Event and Associated Open-Source Python Tools

We present gPhoton, a time-tagged database of 1.8 trillion photon events collected during the 10-year GALEX mission (a space-based UV telescope). We show the current organization for this large (SQL-based) database and highlight a few of the steps we've taken to optimize the queries. In addition to the database, we provide open-source python software to query and analyze photon events in the database, allowing users to construct lightcurves, calibrated images, and animated data cubes at user-specified spatial and temporal scales. We show a few science examples that gPhoton enables by allowing users to study UV variability over timescales of seconds and minutes.
